Displacement sensor or resistance ruler

Resistance type displacement sensor, resistance ruler, is a kind of sensor that uses the relationship between resistance and voltage to indicate the position, as shown in the figure above, so we can know the change of displacement by the change of voltage, But sometimes the output voltage value is not conducive to the back-end control (for example, when using PLC to control the displacement of the product, the output of 0 ~ 10V is often used, so we can sometimes use the method shown in the figure below to connect a fixed resistor or use an adjustable variable resistor to obtain the voltage output we need to control the back-end signal

We can use this formula to calculate the output voltage of the resistor

Detailed examples are as follows:

Input voltage: DC24 V output voltage: dc0 ~ 10V total resistance measured by 1 ~ 3 terminals of resistance ruler: 5K

(24-10) / (10 / 5) = 7K, the result is 7K resistance

That is to say, after inputting DC24 V at the 1-terminal and 3-terminal (i.e. DC V + terminal and GND terminal), a fixed resistor 7K is connected in series at the 1-terminal (DC V + terminal), and then the voltage change of 0-10V can be obtained by measuring the 2-terminal and 3-terminal (that is, the out terminal and GND terminal)
